More Proof That Racism And Idiocy Knows No Boundaries

Get this–AsianWeek columnist Kenneth Eng, who bills himself as “The Asian Supremacist,” came under fire this week for writing a column titled “Why I Hate Blacks.”

I read the column, and it’s pretty hard to characterize it as humorous and satirical. I come away from it believing that yes, Kenneth Eng hates black people.

I suppose that his defense will be that he previous wrote a column about “Why I Hate Asians.”

Now Mr. Eng has a right to free speech, and to express his opinions. But his critics have every right to exercise their right to free speech, and his employers have every right to remind him that he is an at will employee.

I can’t imagine what sort of person enjoys making a living by inciting hatred of others. Unfortunately, there seem to be a lot of them:

  1. What do you think the point of his column was? One thing’s for sure, he’ll get a lot of press for it.

One apology, 6 days in some sensitivity training and one book deal later it will all be over.

  2. Ah, but that’s where I disagree Tim. I don’t think this helps him at all.

After the OJ “If I Did It” flap, do you think that publishers are rushing out to sign up people that most find repugnant?

I know that the saying is that “there’s no such thing as bad publicity,” but I think this case is an exception.

  3. You might be right about that, it will be interesting to watch. At a minimum, he’s breaking new ground publically. A clear Asian on Black slur.

  5. Occasionally, someone will use an eye-grabbing headline to draw attention to an interesting polemic. This wasn’t one of those.

The writing was rather juvenile and trite; something I’d expect to see in one of the lesser blogs, not from someone who’s paid to write.

If you’re going to use this headline, the article better be worthy of Mark Twain or you’re toast.

That said, his attitude is far from uncommon in my experience.
