RIP, James Doohan
I was saddened to hear of the death of James Doohan, better known as “Scotty” to Star Trek fans everywhere.

In the era before the Internet, Scotty was one of the few engineering heroes that anyone outside the techie community had heard of.

The funny thing is that I was on a sales call today with the CIO of a hospital. We were talking about how one of his subordinates was named Kirk, as in the captain, and I mentioned that we should have a moment of silence for James Doohan.

It turns out the guy was a huge Star Trek fan, and had actually met Doohan in person several times. Alas, I forgot to end the call, “Live long and prosper.”
